Mercedes García is a Brussels, Belgium-based, Spanish artist known for her abstract visual art practice.

Interwoven with her art practice, García is a diplomat committed to the European integration cause, passionate about the values it represents. Current events often appear in her work in an inconspicuous way, alongside questions of identity and respect for our planet.

She uses layers of ink, pigments, liquid watercolor and acrylic mediums on paper, canvas and panels working with a variety of tools to create meaningful marks.

Her practice revolves around the interaction of words with images, as expressions of contemporary cross-examinations between her diplomatic and creative carriers. Her work has been exhibited in Brussels and Washington DC. She most recently had a solo exhibition at HOMME Gallery in Washington, DC.

She recently returned to Europe after 5 years in the USA where she was a Member of the Board of the Alliance of New Music Theatre and a frequent speaker on a range of international policy and environmental issues. She has also taught international politics in Paris and Brussels.
